Rite Aid trip (101.88% savings)

Okay, I am very excited about my Rite Aid trip! It was the last day of the sale, so a lot of things were out of stock and I didn't get any rain checks, just because I didn't really need any of it. I didn't need any of what I actually did get, but when you see what I got it for, you'll understand why I did what I did!


2 Pantene shampoos ($1.50 each after Q)
Crest toothpaste ($1.49 after Q)
Kotex pads ($2.99)
Dayquil ($3.49 after Q)
Metameucil (the HUGE one!) ($6.49 after Q)
5 Soy Joy bars ($3)
2 4 pks of Benevia nutritional drinks (FREE +$5 MM (Money Maker) after Qs)
Total OOP= $11.81

At Rite Aid, they have what is called Single Check Rebate. You enter your receipts online and at the end of the month, you can request a single check for all of the rebates you participated in.

The SCR's for this transaction are:
Dayquil= $2 SCR #41
Kotex= $2 SCR #11
Metameucil= $5 SCR #25
Soy Joy= $3 SCR #56
Crest= $1 SCR #79
So after all Q's and SCRs, my total OOP= -$1.19. In other words, not only is all of the stuff pictured above FREE, I am actually going to get back an extra $1.19! That is 101.88% savings!

Giant Eagle trip (26% savings)

I didn't do too great:

We're cheese snobs, so $13.29 of my total was a hunk of Parmigiano Reggiano cheese.

Total OOP(Out of Pocket)= $57.61, saved a total of $20.07 (26% savings- this stinks because of the darned cheese!). I also received a $6 OYNO (On Your Next Order) Q at the register!

Orlando residents: Albertsons is going out of business!

For the next couple of days, there are 2 Albertson's stores in the Orlando area that are going out of business. One is 12981 SO ORANGE BLOSSOM TRAIL, Orlando, FL, 32837 and the other is 1100 NORTH JOHN YOUNG PARKWAY, Kissimmee, FL, 34741.

I hit up the Orange Blossom Trail store this morning and got some major steals. BUT, BE CAREFUL!! Albertson's loves to inflate prices so even at their 50% markdown clearance special price, some items ARE NOT A DEAL. For instance, a bottle of rewetting drops was inflated to $12.99!!! Are you kidding me?? But I was able to get my hubby 3 bottles of rewetting drops of a different brand marked down to $2.40/bottle! I still ended up with a cart FULL of groceries and am stocked. As a couponer and a saavy shopper, I know the prices at Publix, where I normally shop, and knew what I could get a better deal on.

The last day is Saturday for both stores so go quickly, go ALONE, take your time, and shop smart! There are some good deals, but you have to keep a close eye out for them!

Target has Pampers giant boxes on special price $35.99 for the 92-140 count Cruisers, sizes 3-6 and 160-180 count Swaddlers sizes 1-2. When you buy 2 boxes, you get a $10 Target gift card!
I used 2 $2 off MFQ's and saved an extra $4.
I ended up with 240 diapers (Ryan is still in a size 3...he's my peanut) for $.024 a diaper after the gift card. Not bad for Pampers and I got my Gain laundry detergent for free with the gift card after splitting up my transactions!

Recycle your Xmas cards!

If you are like I used to be, I would wonder what to do with all of the wonderful Christmas cards I received from friends and family. A few years ago, a good friend revealed that she would cut the fronts off of the cards and recycle them as gift tags for presents in subsequent years. What an awesome idea! So if you aren't a card saver, you can do this and have a nice creative way to decorate your Christmas packages next year! And you'll never have to waste money on gift tags ever again!

Homemade Baby Wipes

I tried to make baby wipes once before, when Cameron was a baby, and I hated them! I made a mistake though. I cut the paper towel roll the wrong way. I recently tried it again for Cora, and they are awesome! I am going to use my stockpile of Viva paper towels (which are really soft!!) on baby wipes with Cora.

Is it really worth it to use my precious time making baby wipes?? The answer? Absolutely!!!


The recipe:
1/2 of a paper towel roll (cut down the middle, as if you are making two rolls of TP)
baby wipes container (this may not work if you are using a double roll)
4 C hot water
1 T baby wash (head-to-toe type)
1 T baby oil
Mix the baby oil and baby wash into the water. Put paper towels into container. Pour some of the liquid mixture over the paper towels. Let soak. Repeat until all liquid has been added. When moist, remove inner cardboard tube from paper towel roll. The wipes will pull from the center of the roll.

Recently, at my grocery store, Giant Eagle, 2 packs of Viva paper towels were on sale for $3.59. I had found an IP (Internet Printable) on Kmart.com for $2 off. It was a manufacturer's coupon, so I was able to use it at my store. I bought as many packs of paper towels as of coupons I had. So in the end, I paid $1.59 per 2 pack, or $.795 per roll. One roll equals 2 containers of baby wipes, so that equals $.3975 per container of baby wipes. Now, my paper towels have 70 sheets per roll and they are one-ply, which is even better because when they get wet, the two-ply sheets will come apart (another mistake I made the first time around).

Stick with me, here. It gets better!!

You can buy a big container of Target brand baby wash for $2.74 for 28 oz. That works out to be about $.04893 per one container homemade baby wipes. You can also buy a big thing of Target brand baby oil for $2.14 for 20 oz. That is about $.0535 per one container of baby wipes.

If you add all of this together:
One 1/2 roll paper towels (70 sheets): $.3975
1T baby wash: $.04893
1T baby oil: $.0535
That equals a little under $.50 for a container of wipes. There are 70 paper towels, so that would equal $.007 per wipe. That is LESS than ONE CENT per wipe!!

I used to buy wipes at Sam's Club. It was the best deal that I could find in my area. At Sam's Club, Huggies wipes are $14.93 for 720 wipes. That equals $.0207 per wipe.

By buying wipes, you are paying over twice as more per wipe than if you made them. And as a mom, you know that some diaper changes require using 10 wipes!!

I know for sure that I am going to continue making wipes after doing the math!!
