My end of the month totals...

Thanks Kelly F. for the great idea! I too have been keeping track of my spending with Excel. It has really helped me see where my money is going and how much I am really saving each week. Here is how I have been doing so far in 2010. I agree with Kelly F. I am going to try to spend less in April too. I went way over budget in March. I also have to watch my excitement level when I see sales and realize they will come back around again...lol!

Oh how I wish Florida was the land of double coupons at the grocery store. I could be saving even more, but alas, I am thrilled to be saving what I am and happy I can share what I know with others!

These totals are only from my trips to the grocery stores; Publix & Albertson's. These figures do not include my Walgreens and CVS trips as I did not record those for January.

January:
Spent: $314.33
Saved: $204.51 39% savings

February:
Spent: $376.89
Saved: $290.73 44% savings

March:
Spent: $427.12
Saved: $282.41 39% savings

I almost didn't go to CVS this week, but I would have been a fool not to with all the coupons that I had that matched sales!

Prices are after sales and Qs. I got:

2 jumbo packs Huggies and 216 ct pack of wipes: after sales and all the Qs, $11.22 for all
1 bottle of Vitamin water: FREE
3 Folgers coffee: $.97 each
1 Listerine: $.99
1 box chocolate covered chocolate chip cookie dough pieces: FREE

Total before sales and Qs: $59.62
My OOP: $10.38, plus I earned $5 ECB
Total savings: $49.24 (82.59%)

End of the month and how I've done so far this year...

I have to say, I love how Kelly W. and I are blogging about our weekly trips to document our grocery savings! I, personally, am keeping track of my spending for the entire year, using Excel. I am allowing $300 per month for groceries. This includes food, toiletries, household items, baby items, pet items, etc. This also includes my trips to Sam's Club. I debated on whether or not to keep our membership, but meat prices are lower there, as are some things that we eat and use, which aren't regularly on sale or have coupons available. I think the savings we get from Sam's definitely offsets the cost of membership ($40/year).

So here is how I have been doing so far this year:
January: Spent: $475.81 Saved: $690.39 (59.2% savings)
February: Spent: $218.22 Saved: $471.67 (68.37% savings)
March: Spent: $367.28 Saved: $595.33 (61.85%)

I am definitely going to try to spend less in April, since I went over budget 2 out of 3 months. I just have to be a little more picky with sales and deals and realize that things will be on sale again some time, and that I don't have to jump on every sale. This saving money thing is definitely awesome, though, and I wonder why I never did it sooner!

Whole Foods trip :-)

I decided to make a trip to the Whole Foods market closer to home this morning. It is a whole lot smaller than the one I was in last week, but it carries the same things and doesn't require as much gas to get there! Mike had never been and I wanted to show him some of the things I had been buying for Ryan and pick up a few items from our weekly list. Here is how we did:

Bananas: $1.31
2 boxes Annies Organic Mac & Cheese indiv. packs: $4.99 ea.-$1.00/2 MFQ = $8.98 for both! (This is WAY cheaper even without the coupon than Publix sells this for and it's Ryan's favorite!)
Fruitables 8 pack fruit/veggie juice boxes: $3.99-$0.50 MFQ = $3.49
2 bags Kettle brand chips: 2/$4 sale
6 pack YoKids yogurt: $3 sale-$0.50 printable = $2.50
olives from the olive bar: $3.00
bell pepper: $1.75
onion: $1.08
-$0.10 for bringing our own reusable bag

Total before sales & Q's: $30.08
I paid: $26.01
Only 14% savings, but I saved over $3 just on the Annies Mac & Cheese with the coupon compared to the Publix price. I am thrilled about that!

Great deal on diapers at Rite Aid!!

This week at Rite Aid, Huggies jumbo packs are on sale for $8.99. There is a $3 off coupon on coupons.com. You can print it 2x per computer. There is also a $2 off coupon on the Rite Aid Video Values website. You have to sign up and watch the video, but then you can print the $2 off coupon, which is a Rite Aid coupon, so it can be stacked with the $3 off coupon. YMMV with using more than one Video Value coupon at one time.

Anyway, then there is a $3 off $15 coupon, that you can also use. If you also sign up for the Single Check Rebate program through Rite Aid, there is a $1 SCR (#53) for Huggies (but the limit is only 1).

So if you add it up:
$8.99-$3 Q- $2 RA VV Q- $1 SCR
$8.99-$3 Q-$2 RA VV Q
-$3/$15 printable
=$3.98 for 2 jumbo packs of Huggies

Desitin is also on sale as are wipes (I've been making wipes, lately, but I will buy these, since it is a good deal). I plan on doing a slightly different scenerio:

2 jumbo packs Huggies ($6.98 after the Qs and SCR)
1 Desitin ($2.99- $1 in ad Q- $1 printable= $.99)
-$5/$20 (you earn this coupon on the Video Values website after watching 20 videos)
=$2.97
and then:
2 jumbo packs Huggies ($7.98 after Qs)
2 wipes ($5- (2) $.75 printables-$1 SCR (#54) = $2.50)
1 Desitin ($2.99- $1 in ad Q- $1 printable= $.99)
-$5/$25 printable
=$6.47
So in the end, for less than $10, 4 jumbo packs of Huggies, 2 containers of wipes and 2 Desitin. :o)

Enough is enough?

I think my husband might have me committed if he sees me walk through the door with any more Johnson & Johnson Buddies soaps. They are $.97 at Target and by using the coupons available on coupons.com, redplum.com and smartsource.com (actually, I'm not sure if it is still available here, since it disappears after you print it) they are FREE! I have 2 computers, and 2 prints on each site per computer, equals 12 for FREE. Add that to the 4 that I already had from previous coupons, and I don't think I will need to buy soap for the kids ever again!

I took a look at my stockpile yesterday, and I couldn't help but grin like a fool. How could I ever have paid full price for shampoo, deodorant, soap, lotion, medicine, toothpaste, etc etc etc?? Last month, I spent less than $250 on groceries (including toiletries and pet supplies) for our family of 4. Okay, so Cora doesn't really eat much food, but she is starting solids now (she loves her some butternut squash!).

I know that Kelly and I are doing our best to post the best deals, freebies, coupons, etc that we come across, but we no where come close to all of those fabulous pro bloggers out there. I find it difficult with my daily wife and mommy duties to even maintain this blog, so I don't know how all of those women do it! Our blog is not meant to compete with theirs, but to help out our friends and family, who may not know where to start. So, I want to ask, have we helped you out at all? Is there anything that we can do to help you even more?

Remember, if you ever have questions, comments, or need help with any type of scenario, ask away!! We want to help you grow as a couponer, as we learn the way, ourselves!

Albertson's (35% saved)

We were totally out of meat so it was time for our once a month trip to Albertson's to stock up. They are always having a great meat sale so we took full advantage today. Our poor little freezer is so full. I am glad my husband is great at arranging and packing because we honestly didn't think it would all fit. We weren't planning on getting ground beef, but as we entered the store they came over the entercom saying there was a manager's special on it. Music to a couponer's ears! We ended up with 5 lbs. Needless to say, we are good on meat for a long, long time. YEAH! Here is how we did:

2 Ribeye steaks (we splurged!): ($4.88/lb) $9.58 total
3 Angus roasts B1G2 Free (with in-ad Q): $16.62 total
6 lbs. boneless/skinless chicken breast: ($1.88/lb) $11.45 total
3 lbs. 80/20 ground beef: $6.27 after $3 manager's special Q
2 lbs. 85/15 ground beef: $5.04 for both after $1.00 manager's special Q
2- 2.5 lb. packs BOGO center cut pork chops: $10.83 ($5.41 each pack)

Hubby needed breakfast sandwiches and they had a great sale which was good since I was out of Jimmy Dean Q's. They also had a super sale on Pepsi 12 packs @ 3 for $10. He stocked up and is good for a month. I don't drink soda so it will last a long, long time!

2 4-count boxes Jimmy Dean breakfast sandwiches: $7.98 total
3 12-count boxes Mountain Dew, Diet MD, & MD Code Red: $10.69

TOTAL before sales & Q's: $121.43
